Tips for Fixing Slow Operation Speed of Excavators

If a new excavator suddenly slows down, start with simple checks:

First, inspect the circuit fuses for open circuits or short circuits. This is like a tripped circuit breaker at home, which stops electrical appliances from working properly.

If the fuses are fine, check the pilot pressure. Abnormal pilot pressure will affect the excavator’s movements.

Next, check the servo control valve and servo piston for seizure. Just like a jammed internal part, it will disrupt the whole machine’s operation.

If these are all normal, check for malfunctions in the distributor confluence.

If none of the above checks identify the cause, you will need to disassemble the hydraulic pump, which is complex and must be done carefully.

If an old excavator slows down gradually, it is mostly caused by normal wear and tear.

Reduced engine power and internal leakage in the hydraulic system will both slow down the machine.

Internal leakage also generates a lot of heat, raising system temperature and lowering the viscosity of hydraulic oil and engine oil.

In such cases, a complete overhaul is usually required to repair or replace excessively worn parts.
