Factors Causing Damage to the Computer Board

2025-09-27

The most common causes of computer board damage are water ingress and mechanical impact. Additionally, lightning strikes, welding surges, pin corrosion, ablation of internal components, and other factors can also lead to computer board damage. A common practice to prevent welding surges is to disconnect the power supply of the entire machine, i.e., turn off the battery switch. Some manufacturers even require users to disconnect the connection between the computer board and the entire machine’s wiring harness before using welding equipment. The most common cause of pin corrosion is the poor sealing performance of the large connector on the computer board, which allows moisture to seep in. Over time, this eventually leads to pin breakage or poor contact.

Computer board damage generally occurs in the following situations:

1.Generator failure, which causes high voltage to be generated in the circuit.

2.Users connecting batteries in series when starting the engine.

3.Unauthorized connection of electrical appliances, which increases the electrical load and results in burnout due to excessive current.

4.Failure of the generator regulator, leading to excessive power generation by the generator.

5.Reverse connection of the positive and negative terminals of the battery, as well as aging of the wiring harness and poor short grounding.

6.Maintenance not in accordance with operating specifications, such as plugging or unplugging the ECM (Electronic Control Module) while the power is on.

7.Excavators breaking cables, resulting in external high-voltage electric shock.

8.Misuse of fuses with large capacities.

9.Water ingress into the computer board, causing a short circuit in the circuit.

10.Incorrect wiring of the computer board or improper plugging/unplugging.
