Common Mechanical Faults of Volvo Excavators

1. Engine System

• Difficult Starting / Intermittent Stalling: This may be caused by a faulty camshaft sensor (e.g., water ingress or oxidation in the connector), starter circuit issues (no response from the starter motor, abnormal key power supply), or insufficient diesel fuel delivery (clogged fuel filters, poor fuel injector atomization).
• Loss of Power: Characterized by weak digging performance and excessive exhaust smoke. Potential causes include worn fuel injectors, a clogged air filter, or internal engine wear (e.g., oil burning).
• Engine Overheating: Common causes are radiator leaks, water pump failure, or blockages in the cooling system.

2. Hydraulic System

• Slow / Weak Movements: This could result from hydraulic pump wear, leakage in the control valve (distribution valve), or aging oil seals in the central piping.
• Travel Issues: Weak travel on one side or drifting is usually related to problems with the travel motor, track tension, or hydraulic valve malfunctions.
• Oil Leaks: Frequently occur due to aging cylinder oil seals or damaged pipelines.

3. Electrical System

• No Start: Inspect the fuses, relays, and connections to the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) for looseness.
• Monitor Display Abnormalities: May be caused by unstable voltage or sensor failures.

4. Other Common Faults

• Low Oil Pressure: Check the oil level, oil filter, and oil pump.
• Clogged Filters: Blockages in the air or oil filters will lead to decreased machine performance.
• Stalling Under Load: This can be caused by ECU malfunctions, solenoid valve failure, or poor-quality diesel fuel.
